Scotland's Rivers

About Me

I am a native of East Lothian but now live in the Scottish Borders. I have worked in journalism, the building industry, engineering and now busy myself as a freelance writer and am a member of the Association of Freelance writers. I write in several genres but my main interests are Social History and Social Justice. I have and continue to write for several publications but my main source of interest lies inthe East Lothian Life  magazine. I was married for 25 years and four daughters but sadly my wife died 13 years ago. I remarried three years ago. My lifetime hobby was golf but disabilities prevent me from playing nearly as much as I used to. I became involved in the Geograph Project in 2008 and that has been a constant source of enjoyment for me. That now goes very much hand in hand with the writing and has helped me meet the most interesting people. I have now turned to writing books, which seemed a natural progression for me and, as you may have guessed, my books centre around the Social History of Scotland. The Rivers and Coasts allows me to visit towns, villages, farms, churches and great houses in a much more structured manner. I do hope you have the opportunity of reading and, hopefully enjoying the finished results. Thank you for taking the time to view my site and hope you return as the site grows.

Yours Aye

James Denham

I saw this site most days of my younger life in Prestonpans. Prestongrange Parish Kirk was built in 1606 by Rev. John Davidson and was one of the first churches to be built after the Refromation.

We moved to Livingston and found so many lovely walks there but I never tired of seeing the River Almond especially in winter. Photo by M. J, Richardson.Geograph.

I later moved to the beautiful Dorset town of Sherborne where I spent happy years. I never tired walking down Cheap Street and Half Moon St. to see the great Abbey of Sherborne. photo Sarah Smith - Geograph.

Circumstances took me to Bridgwater or, more precisely, the lovely village where I lived until moving in to the town.

I then moved to the town of Bridgwater and, while I enjoyed my stay there I did miss the serenity of little Fordgate. Here is a photo of Bridgwater's Market Hall by Derek Harper - Geograph

Now I live in Galashiels in the beautiful Scottish Borders, happy to be back on Scotland though I enjoyed my time in the lovely counties of Dorset and Somerset
